Three staff members have been promoted to new positions: Janice Bonello to Program Director, Homeless Services; Eonis Cibrian Pelayo to Director of Community Relations and Advocacy and Simone Berkowitz to Chief Analyst.

Janice Bonello has been promoted to Program Director, Homeless Services. CSA has recently restructured some of its programs and as part of the change, Homeless Services was made into its own department with Ms. Bonello at the helm. Ms. Bonello was previously a case manager in the Homeless Services Department where she launched two initiatives for unhoused clients, a weekly support group and a self-series designed to help clients recharge and move forward on their journey toward self-reliance.

A newly minted US citizen and first-generation college graduate, Ms. Bonello holds a bachelor’s degree in Collaborative Health and Human Services from California State University at Monterey Bay.

Eonis Cibrian Pelayo has been promoted to Director of Community Relations and Advocacy. Ms. Cibrian Pelayo was previously Community and Public Relations Coordinator, responsible for planning and carrying out responsibilities for the Community Resource Navigator Program, a program she developed and launched in 2018 to empower community leaders from disadvantaged communities to share resources with those who lack access to available services.

The youngest of six children who helped their parents harvest the fruit orchards in the Sacramento area, Ms. Cibrian Pelayo is a first-generation college graduate and Dean’s Scholar at San Jose State University where she majored in Sociology and Human Rights. She has been with CSA since 2016 and also recently received a $3,000 professional development grant from the Walter & Marian English Awards fund administered by the Columbus Foundation.

Simone Berkowitz has been promoted to Chief Analyst. Ms. Berkowitz joined CSA in 2017 as the Challenge Diabetes Program Coordinator and then moved into an analyst role two years ago. Her promotion reflects the increasing complexity of keeping up with the agency’s data management and reporting needs.

As a Certified Salesforce Administrator, Ms. Berkowitz administers CSA’s client database. Ms. Berkowitz also created the agency’s “Can Challenge” inspiring community members to donate canned food to CSA’s Food & Nutrition Center and post about it on social media. Ms. Berkowitz holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from MIT and a master’s degree in public policy from the Goldman School at UC Berkeley.

“At CSA we take pride that key leadership roles are filled by extraordinary women,” says Tom Myers, CSA Executive Director. “These three exemplify the strong leaders that have made CSA such a great organization.”
